Long time no see, but here is another one in our series Who Said That! Try to guess or remember first who said that, and if you don’t know, you’ll see who it was at the very end of the article. Remember to s c r o l l down very slowly so you won’t reveal who said that ahead of time! This quotation reminds us that we really do not need a whole lot to be happy. Or at least content with what we have. The more your life is defined by materialistic needs, the less space there is for the intellectual and spiritual ones.
Living a simpler life it is easier to appreciate the basic things in life such as food, shelter, company, love etc. Another coinage, Health is Wealth, is certainly part of this as without health, we cannot enjoy our wealth, however much it brings to us.
THE GREATEST WEALTH IS TO LIVE CONTENT WITH LITTLE
But who is behind today’s quote?
A man who reflected what people of all times living in abundance, affluence and/or luxury may secretly yearn for daytime, and quite openly within themselves in the wee hours of the night when the spirit is high and the needs for any social pressure the least.
A man who, along with Socrates (his teacher) and Aristotle (his most famous student), laid the foundations of Western philosophy and science. He founded the Academy in Athens, the first institution of higher learning in the Western world.
That man is Plato, who lived some 400 years BC in Classical Greece.
