Who Said That! #15

Happiness Coffee Beautiful Day Frog Cup Happy Joy This time in Who Said That! some Roman wisdom! Remember to  s c r o l l  down very slowly so you won’t reveal who said that ahead of time!

A hint though: this person lived a very long time ago (naturally - Roman wisdom), but most of us may actually remember him from history classes at school. Especially if your history teacher - or you yourself - happened to be particularly interested in Roman history.

As we all know, abundance is not just a great thing but can also create all sorts of problems for us. Whereas simplicity and humbleness often facilitate life, and make us appreciate the little we have, and the little and natural things in life. And ourselves. The more materiality gains ground, the less space there seems to be for humanity, the human side of ourselves, as opposed to the mechanical and materialistic side. So, isn’t it true that

“VERY LITTLE IS NEEDED

TO MAKE A HAPPY LIFE;

IT IS ALL WITHIN YOURSELF,

IN YOUR WAY OF THINKING”

And who said that again?

Did your history teacher manage to leave a mark in your memory about this fine man?

Well, anyways, we are talking here about

the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, who lived between 121 and 180, and was known as one of the Five Good Emperors. His personal philosophical writings, often called Meditations, have been praised by thousands ever since. Marcus Aurelius used to record his private notes to himself, and also his ideas on Stoic philosophy. He may actually never have intended the writings to be published, but such a nice thing for us that they were!
