This being a blog - at least for now - there is typically a date stamp attached to each article. Hopefully no one is bothered about that too much for nothing in this blog remains the same for long. The blog is continually being updated and refreshed. New persons are added, new data is filled in to already existing files and there will also be new article series. Like at the moment the one that concentrates on singular people as a homage to them. No need to point out perhaps that Journeys of Life is filled with interesting people and life stories. Which are all very handy to get access to via the links to Wikipedia - that magnificent free encyclopedia that anyone can edit!
The mobile version of the blog reads well too. It opens the Wiki articles just as fine. For the sake of readibility, all persons - even those without any links (for whatever reason) - are written in bold. Check the FAQ for more information.
The idea here is to have a separate article for each year, and at the moment the 19th century is going through the process of individualization. Later on it will be the 18th century. Why do this? Well, this blog is about people as much as history, and about the impact we people have on the world and each other. Every “year article” is going to have some background information on the year plus a picture or a photo that best or in a most interesting way depicts the year in question. If you want to read more about the events of any particular year, check Wikipedia.
At the end of each background info, there is the sentence “and all these fine people were born:”. This is about the hopes and the prospects of a new life being born - no matter how the life of these individuals actually go. Many of the people listed in this blog turn out fine or even great leaving their marks on the times they lived in or even far into the future. But some lives of course turn out not so good, or even bad. Still they all have place in this blog, for this is not just about the goodness in people, but also about the human potential for harm. i.e. about being human with all that it entails. But we do stress the positive side of man, and give therefore wars and other negative stuff only a limited space here whereas science, music, sports, the arts etc predominate.
All in all, Journeys of Life is a celebration of humanity. Good reading to you all!
