We’ve all probably experienced it at one point or another: the curse of inertia. Inertia could be seen as the other side of the coin where “the better side” has rest (add italics) printed on it. But whereas rest is a positive and necessary thing, really needed as a balancing ingredient between action, inertia is its negative counterpart, making it difficult to go back to action.
And we can see it happening in so many areas of our lives.

Xxx
We all know we are at some point of our lives going to die. No matter how strong we live, no matter what we believe, no matter how much we have, we are going to die.
And that doesn’t necessarily sound so bad, at least not to many of you who have had near-death-experiences.
The creative urge leaves you oftentimes kind of sidetracked when it comes to mortality. It is hard to fathom that there comes a point when you can’t create anymore.

xxx
For sure, the majority of our dreams are about digesting what has happened during the last hours of our waking hours. They are like a waste product of our subconscious, helping us to sort out the important bits from the mountain of detailed, but sometimes subtle and flighty experiences.
But then there are the gems. And those dreams usually occur in the early hours or just before we would wake up.

Have you too wondered where the fat goes when we loose weight? Well, wonder no more for the Australian scientist and public speaker Ruben Meerman explains it so well in TED Talk - part of his educational pursuits in Australia and around the world. He wrote the bestseller Big Fat Myths that answers the question: When you lose weight, where does the fat go?
To put it simply, it’s all about chemistry, and more precisely, about the correlation between and the chain reaction of the key elements we people need for living.

Do you know anyone over hundred years of age? Chances are that if you live in Japan, you do. In September 2018 Japan’s centenarian population hit a record-high of 69,785 with women accounting for about 88 % of the total.
Chances are also that some distant day in the future, hundred years will be the new middle age. But for now it means being very old, and people who have lived that long, have certainly something worthwhile to tell us younger people.

Are you one of those people who need a touch of nature during their city kaupunkiviikonloppu ???
To get away from the busy traffic, sidewalk slalom, the constant noise around you?!
Here follows a quick look at where to go to find some peace not too far from the city you are visiting. Mind you, we’re not talking about parks here, but real forests where you can get the feeling of being enveloped - and empowered - by nature.

To the delight for visitors and locals alike, there are city bikes in an increasing number of cities all around the world.
In my hometown Helsinki we get to enjoy the yellow city bikes from April thru October, i.e. almost six months. Perhaps even longer in the future if climate change continues to give us shorter winters. In Helsinki the bikes are yellow. In Melbourne they are blue, in Amsterdam green, in Reykjavik pink.

xxxxx
The human body is a wondrous complex. When it comes to elements, it comprises almost entirely of mere six of them. These are:
oxygen (65%)
carbon (18%)
hydrogen (10%)
nitrogen (3%)
calcium (1.4%)
phosphorus (1.1%)
Another five elements make up about 0.85% of the remaining mass:
sulfur
potassium
sodium
chlorine
magnesium
All of these 11 elements are essential elements.
This article aims in no way to be a giver of any medical advice, but just raise some ideas around the notion that the body is the temple of your soul, and must be taken care of with reverence.

Journeys of Life is about the lives of people, any people. Most of us would love to tread that journey - however short or long it is - in a healthy environment. But sometimes it is made hard for us.
How many of you know that plants that beautify our homes, offices and other public places, can also help us get rid of bad smells? Like that cigarette smell left by the previous resident or your friendly neighbor?

Since years back it has been a popular pastime for some of us to check on YouTube for all sorts of survival and prepper videos. Preppers, i.e. people getting ready to live without societal support in times of disaster, are growing in numbers by the second. National and global events always trigger the escalation of prepping, but even when the times are calmer and seem more secure, and there really doesn’t seem to be a whole lot to worry about for the majority of us, prepping will always be something that people just do naturally.

is it gonna end? It’s The Question millions of people ask these days. When can we live and go about our lives in a normal manner again? Finally cast away all this protective gear, and breathe normally? Like we used to not that long ago.
There are definite signs in the air and everywhere that - no, not of it being over - but that we, so many of us, are getting so so fed up with having to gear up and be extra cautious.

Music heals. In the deepest abysses of sorrow, music heals, soothes, takes us somewhere with no time and space.
Listening to a piece by Garth Brooks, Time by Hans Zimmer, Schindler’s List by John Williams etc etc, through the earphones at top volume and sobbing in rhythm with it all can be an utterly cleansing, cathartic experience.
Here’s one more. On The Nature of Daylight by the British composer Max Richter.

Doesn’t that’s sound a bit horrific? It is a term not necessarily known to all of us. But the phenomenon is commonplace, this erection of hairs on the skin due to cold, fear, excitement, euphoria or sexual arousal.
Before that erection happens, there usually is a sudden surge of warmth throughout your body. In colloquial language, we know this phenomenon of course as goose bumps. The reason for that choice of words naturally being that our skin then looks like the skin of an unfeathered goose.

Angelica keiskei aka 明日葉 ashitaba or “tomorrow’s leaf”
there is a plant called Ashitaba that might help you stay healthier and age slower? Mother Nature Network recently published an article about this miracle plant. It is well worth your time to read both the article and the Wikipedia page, and perhaps try planting it yourself in your backyard or balcony.
One fantastic thing about Ashitaba (which translates “tomorrow’s leaf”) is that it does so well in cold as well, is quick to recover and, like MNN writes, “a leaf cut off in the morning will start growing back the next day.

We learn to walk around the age of one - and what a delight that is for both the parents and child! And from then on - unless something unforeseen happens - we walk our whole lives.
The steps we take are uncountable. But let’s say that we take an average 3000 steps a day during 10 years. That would make close to 11 million steps. So in 80 years one might take around 88 million steps.

New Year’s resolutions, anyone? Traditionally, many of them have to do with losing some of those extra pounds and kilos accumulated in December - or many consecutive Decembers for that matter.
I myself have every now and then thought of how to make it really really easy to eat healthy snacks instead of resorting to chocolate for that little bit of fast energy. Never mind if you just ate a ton of chocolate in December, the craving for chocolate can be a perennial threat to being fit for many of us.

If you do your own grocery shopping, you’ve probably seen a major change in shelf labels. More and more labels are about offering the vegan option. Which is a great thing for the world. Since we all know - or should know, in these enlightened times - what a wasteful and detrimental life man has been living as a carnivore considering what it does to the Earth. If it takes 50 000 liters of water to create a couple of pounds of meat to sell, that’s just plain wrong, isn’t it?

We all know that - instinctively or otherwise. That it is good for the mind, body and soul to connect with nature. For example by having a walk in the woods. No matter how urban or modern we are, we all benefit from spending time outdoors. And woods especially have that special pull that draws many of us into leaving everything for a while, and head to be embraced by the trees.
