Life In Good Measure

It is about people, history and your own place on the map

Sins Updated

When you here the word sin, the first thing that springs to mind is the Bible, right? The story of the ten commandments, and if you break any of them, you are committing a sin.

Not all of us are religious, but we can still appreciate the idea of sin. Let’s go through each of them, with a little twinkle in our eyes. Let us also employ the idea presented by Shirley MacLaine in her book xxxxx, namely that Live is backwards Evil, so not to really live and let live, is tantamount to being the opposite of life, i.e. evil.

We will also take a completely analytical and clinical look at sin.

Sins: pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath and sloth.

Virtues: prudence, justice, temperance, courage, faith, hope and charity.

GLUTTONY

To eat and drink and really any eecessive intake takes you further away from balance, and possibly shortens your life. Negating life is therefore sin.

KILLING

Of course we know it’s wrong to kill. To take someone’s life. It can easily be expanded to include animal life, at least other mammals – and go from there.

ENVY

To envy someone for their good fortune is very shortsighted, and usually based on the belief that we only live once. Be it as it may, it takes away from the appreciation of one’s own life. Lessens life, so that is a sin.

SLOTH

Also the name of the animal with the almost incredible slow motion. The opposite of being active and effective. Perhaps easiest moralized in comparison to our fellowmen. Who does more and who rides on our backs. To be separated from resting and relaxing – rewards of hard work.

PRIDE

Thou shalt not seem yourself higher than others…. No matter where or when we live, it’s maddening to see some people think they’re better or more important than others. But they can never really be more than they are, but they can definitely become more than they are.

And  the same  of goes for the rest of us.
