Life In Good Measure

It is about people, history and your own place on the map

Did you know that...

DUKTBottles in Istanbul, Turkey, you can take your empty plastic bottles and cans to your local metro station, recycle them, place your transit card on the screen to collect the amount, and then pay all or part of your fare with that? Now that is hats off to Turkey - even if there are lots of less desirable things happening in that country. Smart environmental thinking, for we all need to get from A to B, and this is such a good method to get people to take those bottles with them instead of creating more waste.

In Indonesia you can even take your empty bottles straight into a bus and recycle them there and then in order to pay for your public transportation fare.  A bus in Surabaya can collect more than 500 pounds of plastic each day! Just think about that - if we had buses like that everywhere! It would be an incentive for tourists too to not leave their bottles lying around on beaches everywhere. We all know what a pollutant that has become along with all the other waste material.

Let’s all hope that one day the journey of a PET bottle ends up in a bus ride allover the world. Please do read the whole story in Mother Nature Network ! And read here more about recycling PET bottles.
